Welcome to Rossview! My name is Erica Shirley, and I am so excited to be teaching third grade this school year. It was a joy to begin teaching 3rd grade at Rossview in January. I am originally from Pennsylvania where I attended university and taught at a preschool for about 2 years. As a military spouse, I have had the privilege of also teaching Kindergarten and Second grade for 3 years in North Carolina and Kindergarten for 1 year at a Department of Defense school in Korea. My husband and I enjoy hiking and traveling in our free time. I also love reading, baking, and crafting. I am looking forward to sharing wonderful educational experiences with this year's group of learners!

Classroom Rules:

  1. Listen when your teacher is talking.
  2. Follow directions quickly and quietly.
  3. Respect others, respect yourself, and respect your school.
  4. Raise your hand for permission to speak.
  5. Be safe; be honest.

Classroom Principles:

Along with these rules, I will be using the picture book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids to encourage our students to develop principles that will help them be successful, happy students. Here are the habits:

  1. Be Proactive: You are in charge of you.
  2. Begin with the End in Mind: Have a plan. Know what you want before you act.
  3. Put First Things First: Do the important things first. Work, then play.
  4. Think Win-Win: Find ways where everyone can win.
  5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood: Listen before you talk.
  6. Synergize: Work together to do better.
  7. Sharpen the Saw: Take care of yourself.  Balance feels best.
